Arizona's Bait Vehicle Program - Taking Car Thieves For A Ride. A 30 second Public Service Announcement (PSA) regarding the Bait Vehicle Program can be found on our Youtube channel.
In 2003, the Arizona Automobile Theft Authority began funding grants to statewide law enforcement agencies to develop a Bait Vehicle Program with the intent to reduce Arizona's vehicle theft rate.
Bait cars are equipped with technology using computers, satellites and tracking devices, which notify police when the vehicle has been entered. These vehicles, which are donated by insurance companies, are then deployed in high auto theft areas where police wait for a signal to be transmitted notifying them the vehicle has been entered into or moved so they can catch thieves in the act.
Arizona’s Bait Car program is made possible by support from the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) and the following insurance companies:
- American Family
- Country Mutual
- Farm Bureau
- Liberty Mutual
- State Farm
Don't Take the Bait! Bait cars are everywhere, steal one and you will go to jail!
